Abstract

This study explores the various models and methodologies of Quranic interpretation (Tafsir) research, which is considered one of the oldest scientific activities in Islamic tradition. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, the research identifies the fundamental functions of Tafsir in providing clarity on the meanings of the Quranic text while preventing ideological deviations. The discussion focuses on the methodological frameworks developed by prominent scholars, notably M. Quraish Shihab, who categorizes interpretation methods into four main types: Tahlily (analytical), Ijmali (global), Muqarin (comparative), and Maudlu’iy (thematic). Additionally, the study examines the models proposed by Ahmad Al-Syarbashi and Syaikh Muhammad Al-Ghazali regarding the history of interpretation and the integration of social sciences in understanding the Quran. The findings suggest that Tafsir research continues to evolve to address contemporary challenges, such as the digital era's impact on the authenticity and competence of interpreters.
